Built according to the purity law
Opened in 1715 as the "Bierwirtschaft am Markt", the "Donisl", named after its former tenant Dionysius Haertl, is now Munich's oldest existing pub.
The building was completely destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt in 1954. In 1999 it became the property of Bayerische Hausbau, which decided to renovate it in 2012. Since the poor structural fabric of the traditional restaurant on Marienplatz would not have justified a conversion, it was demolished except for the façade and completely redesigned by Hild und K Architekten from Munich.
Now, immediately behind the wood-panelled foyer, a wide, floor-spanning guest room opens up. Inside, there is an inner courtyard surrounded by columns and spanned by an opening glass roof. The glass and steel construction lets in daylight and can be completely retracted. At least in the summer months, this makes it possible to stay inside the inn under the open sky.
For the lighting in the darker hours, weiser.lighting developed the lighting concept and, together with the Hilt + K office, a luminaire based on historical lanterns to match. The diffuse light component, which serves to brighten up the room and is generated by a linear LED luminaire located vertically in the glass cylinder, is supplemented by an LED downlight integrated in the base of the luminaire, which serves to accentuate the lighting of the tables.
